There are a number of biological differences between men and women, the main one being that women have a womb and that they can bear children. The word ‘womb’ is derived from the Arabic word ‘rahm’ which also translates to mercy, and it is one of Allah’s Attributes – Al Rahman, The Most Merciful. In Arabic mercy is defined as compassion, protection and care.
God tells us: “I have derived the womb from My name, The Most Merciful, so whoever severs the womb has been severed from My Mercy.” This shows us that the love God has for His creation is ten fold that which a mother has to her own child ?
“The humanizing factor in society has always been the woman, and if the mother is destroyed it is a disaster for the rest of society.” – Shaykh Hamza Yusuf
