On Egocentric Societies

Humility, a rare trait to encounter.

The #modern #world is a world of the #self. Everything you see out there is calling to the self, whispering constantly. You’re number #one, you’re the most important thing in the world. You only live once, get what you can… while you can. And this is what the modern corporate mentality is, it’s a #dog eat dog world, and the deepest #challenge is to enter the station of a ‘human being’. – Shaykh Hamza Yusuf

For me, the essence of attaining humility is in recognizing that: though one may be an awesome individual, it does not make him/ her more awesome than another. In fact, as a believer, it should humble him/ her because one is aware that in their Creators Eyes, perhaps, the other person is better. And who can judge better than The One Most Just. In Islamic tradition, we are warned about casting judgements on others, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) taught: “Allah does not look at your appearance or your possessions; but he looks at your heart and your deeds.”

So while one may appear to be “on point”, it may be that one is off point in the spiritual realm.

All I’m saying is, be humble, and keep it real.
