Tell Me About God

Life is our opportunity to wake up and see beyond appearances, yet this world, to the one who is spiritually blind, lacks any notion of Divine reality, and to the one with spiritual inclination, shows many signs of a manifest Divine reality. We are born in this world with full submission to our Creator, we are one with the world and its beings, as we grow ego as well as self-entitlement takes form making the self become worldly. Psychology states that to believe in God is a natural disposition of our being, Islamic tradition states that all humans are born with ‘fitra’: inherent nature of oneness, purity and innocence, also all humans are born with a black seed in the heart, which can grow to blacken/ blind the heart from good, or stay as a seed, or be removed altogether. Now parents, family, society, life takes place and can either take this child away from natural wholeness or can nurture remembrance of Divine manifestation. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) the most perfect exemplar of human characteristics did not see people as evil, but as beings with divine potential, because he knew that we all are predisposed to the truth and the human state is a forgetful one.

We believe that we do not see God with our physical eye, but with our hidden spiritual eye, we feel God, we feel His guidance and inspiration. If life hasn’t gifted you some knowing of God then you should take up this quest, for it is available to all seeking hearts. And if in all the sunrises and sunsets you witnessed, in all the joyful blessings received and the painful trials handed, in the encounters that happened and others that hadn’t, you still don’t feel His presence then know that He feels yours.

Islamic tradition says: God is the excessively loving – Prophet Muhammad taught: “God loves you 70 times fold a mother’s love to her child.”

The internal dimension of the human being is as important if not more important than meeting the obligatory commandments. And yes, there are episodes that come and knock the faith out of some of us, and some questions can not be answered to our limited intellect. However if we had an infinite expansive intellect and could understand the consequences of occurrences in larger scale then perhaps we could, but we never will be able to. This is how faith works; this is our responsibility: a belief in the unseen.

So now I want to tell you about my views of God: He raises you even when odds are against you, He elevates you through the mundane and loves you when you can’t find a reason to love yourself, He will put people’s love for you in their hearts because this is what He does, He will guide you when you can’t see the light and when you can’t make the right decision, He will inspire you. Each one of us is born with a void in our heart, and we often fill this void with ephemeral things, even love of our family and friends is passing also brings pain, in fact most pain, and this is the reason our hearts don’t find the peace we all crave. I believe we are more in need of a still heart than a happy heart, because stillness of the heart can endure the bad and celebrate the good. This emptiness is best filled with God’s love as it is meant to, because this is the love we are searching for, the love that does not put us down nor hurt us. God asks us to free ourselves from an enslaving world. Why worship what does not benefit us, wouldn’t we rather be free from this and be at service to The One who created us and knows us better than we know ourself. Is it not beautiful to be loved and humbled by love, is it not admirable to be raised in a station you never understood is possible without some form of worldly success, He is who inspires knowledge and endows wisdom. He is the Protector, the Healer and without His presence one can not find inner peace. There are things in life that can not be explained but only felt, and often these things are the essence of life’s force.

Allah says: “O son of Adam, I do not forget the one who disobeys Me, so how can I forget someone who obeys Me?”

Hadith Qudsi

The more you know God, the more you will love Him. The heart who seeks for the truth will not be led astray, God will not let you go astray if your heart is sincere you just have to take a step and He will take ten, you walk to Him and He will run to you. This is a promise given by The Most Loving One.
